The circus is in town

National elections are upon us, and once again are our senses and sensibilities are bombarded and tortured with a plethora of palaver and poppycock but with a paucity of pertinence and purpose.

About a month ago, a popular pugilist announced his intention of running for city mayor in his hometown in the south. Now this famous fighter has enjoyed much success in his recent battles, and has been the media darling for quite some time now. The "administration" was quick to invite him into their camp, citing him to be a "sure bet". (note that this athlete himself has a chronic gambling problem)

But a phlegmatic welcome at a short sorty in another southern town seems to have dampened this champion's spirits, and he has withdrawn his gauntlet from the arena.

The sad thing is, if he had persevered in his quest, he would've proven victorious. It doesn't matter if he knew nothing of governance or the law. He would've won on sheer charisma and popularity. I guess that's all you really need to run a country...

"Magaling sya mag-boksing eh!"
